TUINA MASSAGE

What is Tuina?

Tuina is a Chinese medical massage and is one of the oldest Chinese therapies. It uses manipulative movements and varying degrees of pressure on special areas to correct imbalances, relieve pain and achieve harmony in the body’s system. It is used to heal injuries, cure and prevent illnesses and maintain health.

How does it differ from Western Massage?

Chinese Medicine holds that imbalances in the circulation of Qi are at the root of a body’s illness. Therefore. Tuina massage was developed for healing purposes, rather than just relaxation and enjoyment.

The patient does not need to remove clothing as Chinese massage does not usually use oils directly on the skin.

INFANT TUINA

What is infant Tuina?

Tuina treats illnesses without medicine, just by massage. There is a long tradition in China of Tuina being used to treat infants. Infants and children usually respond very quickly to massage and they tend to enjoy this kind of treatment. It is especially effective for children under five.

What can it treat?

Colds, coughs, asthma, anorexia, morbid night crying, constipation, vomiting, diarrhea, malnutrition, abdomi-nalpain, bed-wetting, rikets, cerebral palsy, myogenic torticollis. Parents can also be taught how to massage infants at home to support treatment.

ACUPRESSURE

The practitioner uses his fingers to apply pressure to specific acupuncture points and achieve changes in the body. The choice of acupuncture points is based on the same type of diagnosis that is used in acupuncture with needles. Acupressure is a non-invasive form of treatment.

Electro-acupunture can also be used instead of needles. This works in the same way as acupuncture, but using a small electric current.

CHINESE HERBAL MEDICINE

The practitioner will look at your tongue, take your pulse and medical history.

After this diagnostic interview a prescription of Chinese herbs is made up to treat each individual patient.

ACUPUNCTURE

What is Acupuncture?

According to ancient Chinese philosophy, our health is dependent on the body’s motivating energy-Qi-moving in a smooth and balanced way through a series of channels beneath the skin. These channels are called meridians.

Acupuncture is performed with sterile, disposable needles. These very fine and solid needles are inserted into the skin (meridians) to stimulate the energy flow, help overcome pain or disease and restore harmony.

AURICULAR EAR-PATCH ACUPUNCTURE

What is Ear-Patch Acupuncture?

There are many points on the ear which connect to the meridians in the body. Ear-patch Acupuncture therapy regulates the nerves and vital energy flow.

A tiny bean is taped tightly to an ear acupuncture point and is pressed so as to stimulate the point. This bean is retained in the ear point for about a week. This acts as a form of mild acupressure.

After treatment you should press the taped points for one or two minutes, three times a day.

CUPPING THERAPY

What is Cupping?

A burning taper is held inside the glass, which expels all oxygen and creates a vacuum. The cup is then put on the skin and the skin is drawn into the cup. Cupping increases circulation, alleviates pain and encourages Qi. (You will notice red bruises where the cups have been. These will fade after a few days).

MOXIBUSTION

What is Moxibustion?

Moxa is a dried herb, which is burnt above specific acupuncture points. The application of this penetrating heat enters the body and increases the flow of vital energy.
